Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the Summer: A Perfect Mountain Escape
When most people think of Jackson Hole, they picture snow-covered peaks and ski season. But summer? Summer is where this place really shines.
We planned a multigenerational trip with family flying in and others driving (with toys in tow), and Jackson Hole delivered adventure, beauty, and just the right amount of downtime.
Where We Stayed: Teton Village
We based ourselves in Teton Village, staying in a vacation rental booked through Outpost Jackson Hole. The home was ideal for a group — spacious, comfortable, and surrounded by mountain views that never get old. Teton Village also made it easy to access outdoor activities without feeling far from town.
Live Music Summer Series in Teton Village
One of our favorite unexpected highlights was experiencing the live music summer series in Teton Village. After full days of exploring, it was the perfect way to unwind — live music playing outdoors, the Tetons glowing in the background, and everyone lingering a little longer as the sun went down.
The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with families, couples, and groups all spread out enjoying the music. It felt very Jackson Hole — low-key, scenic, and effortlessly fun. Whether you’re grabbing a drink, sitting on the grass, or just passing through, the summer concert series adds an extra layer of charm to staying in Teton Village.

Paddleboarding at String Lake
One of the most peaceful days of the trip was paddleboarding at String Lake. We rented paddle boards and took a back, unpaved road to get there — a little adventure before the adventure. The water was glassy and calm, with the Tetons reflecting perfectly on the surface. Quiet, scenic, and absolutely worth the drive.
A Calm Float on the Snake River
Because we were traveling with older family members, we opted for a scenic float rather than whitewater rafting. Our trip with Dave Hansen Whitewater was exactly what we hoped for — a gentle float down the Snake River, incredible views, wildlife spotting, and zero stress. It was the perfect way for everyone to enjoy the outdoors together.
Views from the Top: Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
We also took the ski lift up at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and the views were unreal. Summer lifts offer a completely different perspective — endless green valleys, rugged peaks, and fresh mountain air. Even non-hikers in our group loved this experience.
Exploring Town: Art, Food & Cowboy Energy
Walking through the town of Jackson felt like strolling through an outdoor art gallery. We popped into multiple galleries, admired sculptures, and soaked in the creative energy the town is known for.
When it came to food and drinks, we didn’t miss:
Happy Hour at Local: Local is a modern take on a steakhouse with a standout daily happy hour from 3–6 PM. Do not leave without the Wagyu Philly Cheesesteak (zero regrets), and their build-your-own charcuterie boards are next level — especially the foie gras.
Drinks (and vibes) at the iconic Million Dollar Cowboy Bar: Drinks at Million Dollar Cowboy Bar mean sitting on actual saddle barstools, sipping cocktails with live country energy, and maybe spotting a celebrity or two.
A classic family meal at Mangy Moose: Dinner at Mangy Moose in Teton Village was classic mountain comfort — my mother-in-law loved the Elk Stroganoff, while I went for the Flame-Grilled Bavette Steak, both absolute wins.
Breakfast at The Virginian: Breakfast at The Virginian Lodge is a must — my husband swears it’s the best corned beef hash he’s ever had, plus biscuits and cinnamon rolls the size of the Teton Mountains.
Lunch & Milkshakes at Jackson Drug: Lunch at Jackson Drug is classic diner vibes with hearty sandwiches and milkshakes so good they might just steal the show.
Each spot had its own personality, but all delivered great food and that unmistakable Jackson Hole atmosphere.
Off-Roading Adventures
Half of our group flew into Jackson Hole, while the other half drove — trailering our RZR along for the ride. Once we arrived, we ended up renting a second RZR through Jackson Hole Off Road Rentals. They provided us with a map and guidance for off-roading routes, making it easy and stress-free.
We explored dirt roads and backcountry trails, spotting moose and foxes along the way — one of those moments that reminds you how wild and special this area really is.
Mormon Row & the Most Photographed Barn in the World
No summer trip to Jackson Hole is complete without a stop at Mormon Row. Home to the most photographed barn in the world, this historic stretch offers jaw-dropping views of the Tetons framed perfectly behind iconic wooden barns.
We visited during the day and couldn’t believe how stunning it was — wide open fields, dramatic mountain backdrops, and that classic Wyoming feel you see in postcards and magazines. It’s an easy stop, incredibly photogenic, and one of those places that truly lives up to the hype.
If you’re even remotely into photography (or just want that shot), Mormon Row is a must.
